The
HSL Group started from humble beginnings in
1930 when the
late Mr.Lee Boon Seong established Hock Sin Leong in the Bukit Bintang
area, Kuala Lumpur. A sole proprietor business retailing bicycles
and electrical appliances, HSL remained a family store until Mr.Lee
handed the business over to his sons in 1970.
Under
this new partnership, the company began its expansion programme.
In 1975
the Lee brothers' partnership was incorporated
as a private limited company under the name Hock
Sin Leong Sdn Bhd. Today, all retail
operations are conducted under the name HSL
Electrical & Electronics Sdn Bhd.
Driven
by a desire to expand the business to a larger scale, in
1979 the group
commenced diversification by adding a new distribution business
to its operations. Pan Malaysian Enterprises
Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary
of the group, started by importing various consumer electrical and
electronics products and distributing to the local market.
To
provide consumers with better value for money in the mid 1980s,
The HSL Group arranged with OEM manufacturers locally and overseas
to produce consumer electrical and electronics products comprising
both audio visual and home appliances under its brand name,
Telestar. Ever
since the introduction of Telestar, this range of products have
gained an encouraging market share in the consumer electrical and
electronics industry.
In
1986 the group's
distribution division was further developed with the successful
appointment of Tele
Marketing Sdn Bhd as the
official distributor of the internationally acclaimed Telefunken
audio visual products imported from Germany.
The
retail division fo the HSL Group made Malaysian retail headlines
in 1989 by opening the first Warehouse
Concept Store in the consumer electrical and electronics products
all conveniently housed under one big roof.
In
1990, distribution division of the
group made a quantum leap forward when they were conferred the distributionship
of one of Japan's Top Brand of Audio Visual
products; AIWA. With this appointment,
Pan Malaysian Enterprises Sdn Bhd expanded into Johor Bahru, Kota
Bahru, Penang, Ipoh and Malacca and now serves over 250 dealers
nationwide.
Placing
our customers' satisfaction at the heart of the business, The HSL
Group took a dynamic step by being the first in the consumer electrical
and electronics industry to establish a product servicing division
aimed at providing efficient after sales service to its valued customers
in 1991. Electrical
& Electronics Servicenter Sdn Bhd
has today gained the respect, trust and confidence of its valued
customers.
With
the experience and knowledge gained through OEM arrangements with
international and loyal manufacturers, the Group embarked on its
maiden voyage to establish its own assembly operations by forming
Perindustrian
Fajar Sdn Bhd in
1997 giving the buiness a competitive
edge with its complete range of in-house assembled products.
Being
conferred with the Enterprise 50 awards
in 1998 and 1999
was just reward for The HSL Group's hard work and dedication in
the consumer electrical and electronics industry. Winning the award
in 2 consecutive years has evolved within the group a continuous
